Frequently Asked Questions
What does a Wellness Coach do and how does it differ from counseling?
A wellness coach empowers, inspires, guides and is a mentor to support personal goals for success. A wellness coach does not diagnosis, treat or prescribe or take the place of a medical professional or therapist.
Can anyone participate?
The program can be customized to target individuals over 18 years of age. It is noted that many of the clients are at midlife and beyond and the client age range has been from 18-85. Individual needs and goals are discussed during the initial discovery consultation session. Packages can be designed to accommodate an individual, a couple/pair, or a small group that is made up of individuals with similar interests (i.e. College-bound young adults, Empty-Nesters, retired adults,).
Since we are walking do I need to be athletic/fit to participate?
Although there is a walking component involved, the walk is at a comfortable pace so conversation can easily occur. There are resting stops on the walks to take in the beauty of nature and discuss the topics of the week.
Where does the coaching session take place?
Coaching takes place at an agreed-upon public location that fits the need of the client. Organizations can set up the coaching on-site.
Coaching takes place in the South Jersey region area close to Moorestown, Cherry Hill, Marlton and Mt. Laurel. During the summer months, shore points are included on the weekends (Ocean City, Ventnor, Margate, Longport).
How long is the walk/full session?
The full session is typically completed in 50-55 minutes but plan for an hour:
10 minutes: Review of goal and challenge step while completing basic stretches as a warm-up
30 - 35 minutes: CORE Discussion while walking with breaks
10 minutes: Recap of session and next steps while completing basic warm-down stretches
Can I put together my own group?
Yes. You can put together your own group. The target goals would be discussed during the initial consultation session.
Can my sessions be customized focused on a few steps rather than all 7 steps?
Yes. Although each individual will be provided with information on every step, there will be steps that may resonate more with your specific needs and these steps will be covered in more detail.
What happens in inclement weather?
It is preferred to conduct the sessions in the outdoor environment whenever possible. However during extreme weather conditions (heavy rain, sleet, ice, temperatures below freezing), we make alternate arrangement - via Zoom or move to an indoor location.
Can my sessions be on-line or through zoom?
It is preferred to conduct the sessions in-person. However, exceptions can be made based on the need of the individual/group where an on-line forum (zoom) would replace the in-person session(s).
How many sessions can I have during a week?
Although I would recommend one session per week to expand an 8 week (2 month) or 16 week (4 month) program, customizations can be made based on the need of the individual or group. I would not recommend more than 2 sessions per week.
Can I pick the day and time of my sessions?
In many cases, yes., as there are options with the scheduling. In-person walking sessions are always scheduled during day light hours.
Can the pair package (2 people) be a parent and their adult child or an individual and their partner?
Yes. Duo teams are customized to fit your needs. You can walk with a friend, a co-worker, your spouse or your adult-age child (18 or over).
Can sessions be re-scheduled?
Yes. If necessary, sessions can usually be re-scheduled with 24 hour notice.
What should I bring to the session?
Please come to the session in comfortable layered clothing and sneakers for walking. Also, bring a water bottle and any needed medical items (i.e. epi pen, inhaler).
How did you become a Wellness Coach?
I became a Certified Holistic Wellness Coach through IAWP (International Association of Wellness Professionals) by taking an amazing and interactive on-line course that took approximately 6 months. IAWP teaches the CORE coaching method and focuses on a 360 view of wellness. If you would like to learn more about my training and certification or are interested in becoming a coach yourself, visit the International Association of Wellness Professionals.
